A woman has been hospitalised from a snake bite at Kawana.
It happened at a home just before 9pm Tuesday, with paramedics taking the woman to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.
The incident comes as Queensland Ambulance Services has reported a surge in snake bites this summer.
QAS Critical Care Paramedic Julie Massingham says there has been more than the usual number of snake bites for this time of year.
“We’ve seen an increase in comparison to this time last year, but we do know that snakes move around more in the warm weather and especially after the rain,” she says.
There have been more than 20 cases in Queensland in February, including five in Central Queensland.
The public is being urged to be careful in the garden, avoid walking through long grass and wear long pants and closed shoes if you have to, have access to a good first aid kit with a pressure bandage and never try to catch or kill a snake.
If you are bitten, call 000, apply a pressure bandage and try to remain as still as possible.
