Exactly what’s in store for Great Keppel Island will soon be revealed, with a draft master plan for its development set to be released in December.
The State Government has committed $30 million to new infrastructure on the island with a jetty being at the forefront of the plan.
The draft proposal will be released for public feedback in February 2023.
Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga has welcomed the plan and says that a new jetty will improve tourism and safe access to the island.
“Great Keppel Island desperately needs improvement to a whole raft of infrastructure,” she says.
“We are looking forward to delivering that safe landing area and Maritime Safety Queensland has been undertaking some hydrographic surveys of the beaches to determine the best location.”
The project will also be informed by the Transport and Resources Committee which is currently looking into economic and regulatory frameworks for Queensland’s island resorts.
