A survey is open for locals to have their say on the future protection of the Seventeen Seventy coast.
Gladstone Regional Council is asking the community to join the conversation and be actively involved in continuing to protect the Seventeen Seventy foreshore from coastal hazards.
Upcoming engagement sessions are planned for the community to provide input into GRC’s Coastal Adaptation and Resilience Plan.
The plan will provide Council with a pathway to prepare for erosion and inundation on coastal areas along the Seventeen Seventy shoreline.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett says it will be developed in consultation with the community through a series of interactive and collaborative workshops.
“Council will use the community’s vision and values as the basis for identifying key Council-managed assets along the foreshore that are important to the lives and lifestyle of our local residents, the broader community and visitors to the area,” he says.
“We understand the significance of this beautiful part of the coastline and know that listening to our community is key to developing plans that will protect the values of this this coastline for the
future.”
The plan will be based on best available science, and community input, to ensure the plan protects and enhances the aspects of the foreshore that the community values the most, such as trails, boardwalks, access points, seating and barbecue areas.
An online survey asking for feedback will be open until April 3.
